HEALTH ASSESSMENT PRACTICUM

Methodological Instructions to Lesson № 2 for Students 1 course BACHELOR DEGREE NURSING PROGRAM

(practical lesson-7 hours)

Themes: The Interview

Aim: The nursing health history is obtained during an interview with the patient. In order to elicit valid information from the patient, it is essential that the nurse behave professionally and be knowledgeable about interpersonal communication and interviewing techniques. The interview is a communication process that requires the nurse to establish rapport and a trusting relationship with the patient. Without rapport and trust, accurate and meaningful information cannot be gathered.

Professional orientation of students:

The interview allows the nurse to acquire specific information about the patient that is needed for accurate nursing diagnosis and planning. It helps the nurse establish a relationship with the patient by creating an opportunity for dialog. The interview enables the patient to receive information, participate in the identification of problems and contribute to the nursing plan of action.
