I. Explanatory note

Work Programme for Communicable Diseases for higher medical educational institutions of Ukraine III-IV accreditation is made for the specialty “dentist” specialty 7.110106 1101 “Medicine” in accordance with typical applications:

Duration of training, specialty, “Dentist” 7.110104 – 5 years.

According to the curriculum of the discipline is in fourth year of training.

Infectious diseases as subject matters:

a) based on a study of students of medical and biological physics, morphological sciences, microbiology, virology and immunology, physiology, pathophysiology, internal medicine, surgery, neurology, dermatology, epidemiology, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, endocrinology, clinical pharmacology, resuscitation and integrates these disciplines ;

b) laying the foundations of a healthy lifestyle and prevention of disorders of the body during life.
In the common system of training a doctor discipline “Infectious Diseases” has a special place in view of considerable prevalence of infectious diseases, the need for the formation of future doctors in clinical thinking, skills and practical skills to ensure timely diagnosis of infectious diseases and their complications, management of treatment, the optimal choice of tactics in case of emergency. Special attention in the teaching discipline is given to early diagnosis, treatment of pre-hospital phase and improve the quality of the doctor.

Organization of educational process is carried out by credit-modular system according to the implementation of the Bologna Declaration in higher medical education.

The program is structured in a discipline module ECTS, which includes two content modules. Student workload described in ECTS credits – credits loans to students enrolled in the successful assimilation of the module.

Module 1. Infectious diseases.

The substantive modules:

A. Introduction to infectology. Infectious diseases from airborne and fecal-oral transmission mechanisms.

2. Infectious diseases of parenteral and wound transfer mechanisms. Diseases controlled by the International Health Regulations.

Credit and modular educational system (ECTS) leads students systematically learn during the school year and provide improve the quality of students.

The types of classes according to the curriculum are lectures, workshops, independent study students (CPC).

           Topics of lectures reveal issues relevant sections of infectious diseases. In the lecture course the most used variety of teaching tools – multimedia presentations, training films, slides, tapes, demonstration case patients. Lecture and practical steps students as possible are formed in the following order to the theme lecture was preceded by workshops.

Practical lessons on how their organizations are clinical and include:

A. Consideration of theoretical issues and practical skills for standard lists to every practice and during the final module control.

              2. Situational tasks.

              3. Standardized test control, oral and written surveys.

Independent work of students (CPC) holds in the study subjects important place. In addition to traditional training students in practical training and module control and mastery of a list of topics proposed for self-study, planned preparation and writing an essay. The effectiveness of CPC should be ensured cooperation of students and teachers.

II. The purpose of learning a discipline

The purpose of learning a subject “Infectious diseases” – the ultimate goals are established on the basis of Annexes B and D education and training program (EPP) training medical specialty pursuant to the power module and its contents are the basis for building a content discipline (HSVO-2003). Goals (final and concrete) are formulated in terms of “professional” for the appropriate taxonomic levels. Based on the ultimate goals for each semantic module specific objectives formulated in the form of specific skills (actions) targets to ensure the ultimate goal of the discipline.

Final objectives (are based on educational and vocational training programs in “Dentistry”, Kyiv, 2003):

• PP.0029, PP.00222 identify key symptoms and syndromes in the most common infectious diseases;

• PP.0035 determine the tactics of dental patients with the most common infectious diseases;

• PP.0089 interpret patterns and peculiarities of pathological and epidemiological process in infectious diseases that require special tactics of patients;

• PP.00106 demonstrate possession of the moral and ethical principles of professional subordination in providing medical care to infectious patients;

• PP.00111 demonstrate awareness of infectious diseases as weapons of mass destruction;

• PP.00124, PP.00140 diagnose and provide emergency care for urgent conditions that complicate the course of infectious diseases at the Hospital to the stage.
