Methodical Instructions to Lessons 9 for Students.

Subject: The human body (the head, the trunk and the extremities). Perfect Tenses. Active and Passive Voice.

The number of hours 6.

Objective: To enrich the vocabulary based on medical terminology; to practise grammar skills using Perfect tenses; to develop the students’ reading translating and speech habits.

Professional orientation: The gained knowledge can be used at the human anatomy and Latin language classes.

 

Students’ Practical Activity (9.00-12.00)

 

1.    Reading and translation of the text “Human body as a whole”.

2.    Asking and answering questions on the text “Human body as a whole”.

3.    Scanning reading of the text to search for necessary information.

4.    Dividing the text “Human body as a whole” into logic parts.

5.    Descriptive translation of the medical terms lacking Ukrainian equivalents.

Methodological Instructions for Practical Activity

While mastering the grammar structures students should pay attention to:

1.     terminological elements analysis;

2.     using Perfect tenses, Active and Passive Voice;

3.     defining and differentiating grammar phenomena and samples in the text “Human body as a whole”.

Using quizzes, multiply choice tests and individual tasks to assess knowledge, practical skills and abilities of the students who did not pass online tests in Moodle.

1.     training oral exercises to master new words and word-combinations with PowerPoint presentation slide show for new vocabulary introduction and mastering;

2.     listening to the phonograms of the text “Human body as a whole”  using the computer program TextAloud and the headphones;

3.     differentiating grammar phenomena and samples;

4.     proper reading and translation of the text “Human body as a whole”;

5.     answering questions on the text “Human body as a whole”;

6.     annotating and resuming of the text “Human body as a whole”;

1.     affixes of terminal elements and their meanings;

4.     Latin and Greek equivalents of English medical terms;

5.     Present, Past, Future Perfect Tense, Active and Passive Voice.

Students should be able:

1.     to reproduce the models of complex words and word-combinations representing the vocabulary of the text;

2.     to decode the certain medical abbreviations;

3.     to group affixes of terminal elements according to their meaning;

4.     to learn the terms referring to the structure of the head (skull, the bones and muscles of the head);

5.     to name the main parts of the brain and their functions;

6.     to describe the structure of the oral cavity;

7.     to learn the terms referring to the structure of the trunk skeleton;

8.     to describe the organs of the chest, abdominal cavity, pelvic cavity and their functions;

9.     to learn the terms referring to the structure of upper and lower extremities;

10.                 to describe the shoulder, thoracic and pelvic girdles;

11.                 to differentiate grammar phenomena an samples.

The application of the multimedia system MOODLE for everyday knowledge assessment.

 

The Student participation encouraging aspect of the lesson

v        To teach the names of parts of the body, the students cut a page of a newspaper in the shape of a head, stomach, hand etc. Then, using a washing line and clothes pegs, the teacher asks the students to hang their projects on the washing line. The students repeat the names of the parts of the body after the teacher.

v        After teaching the vocabulary of the parts of the body, the teacher asks them to close their eyes while the teacher hides some of the parts of the body. A few seconds later the teacher asks them to open their eyes and name the missing the parts of the body and then to find them.
