First-year students

 

1. THE AIM AND THE OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE:

Ukrainian language course is designed to accommodate students with no previous knowledge of the Ukrainian language. The content of the course includes developing of the elementary proficiency in four basic linguistic skills: speaking, reading, listening, and writing. Basic grammatical structures, sound patterns, spelling and vocabulary will be introduced in an engaging and interactive manner. Additional emphasis will be placed on developing sociolinguistic communicative skills necessary for successful intercultural interaction. Course material will engage students in exploring Ukrainian living cultural and linguistic environment through the study of its living language.

 Lecture classes are strongly augmented by discussion and extensive video and computer program components.

 

2.     COURSE OBJECTIVES

1. To write and know Ukrainian letters

2.  To distinguish Ukrainian parts of speech     

3. To strengthen all four communicative skills of students of Ukrainian (speaking, reading, listening, and writing) through engaging students in a variety of interactive activities

4. To familiarize young people with Ukraine, its culture, traditions, people

5. To develop leadership, resourcefulness, a sense of responsibility, intercultural relations, capacity to adapt to new situations in young people

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION

Lecture and discussion, group work, assigned readings, audiovisuals, reference materials, critical thinking exercises, case studies, other written assignments, tests, internet resources, and others.
