Methodical Instructions to Lessons 6 for Students.

Subject: In-patient Department. First Aid. At a Chemist’s. Continuous Tenses: Active and Passive Voice.

The number of hours – 6.

Objective: 1. To enrich the vocabulary based on medical terminology; to use active vocabulary in communication; to develop the students’ reading translating and speech habits.

2. Practise grammar skills using Continuous tenses.

Professional orientation: The students resume medical texts to prepare for students’ scientific conference participation.

Students’ Practical Activity (9.00-12.00)

1. Doing oral exercises to master new words and word-combinations.

2. Listening to the phonograms of the texts “At the Hospital” and “At a Chemist’s”.

3. Reading and translation of the texts “At the Hospital” and “At a Chemist’s”.

4. Asking and answering questions on the texts “At the Hospital” and “At a Chemist’s”.

1. Dividing the texts into logical parts.

2. Making dialogues on the relevant topics.

3. Preparing short summaries of the texts “At the Hospital” and “At a Chemist’s”.

Methodical Instructions for Practical Activity

While mastering the grammar structures students should pay attention to:

1. determining Latin medical terms in different language groups;

2. differentiating complex grammar phenomena according the formal characteristics;

3. filling in the patient’s case history using the active vocabulary.

1. Answering questions on the texts “At the Hospital” and “At a Chemist’s”.

2. Dividing the texts “At the Hospital” and “At a Chemist’s” into logic parts.

3. Speaking on the duties of the hospital personnel.

4. Describing the chemist’s work organization.

Using quizzes, multiply choice tests and individual tasks to assess knowledge, practical skills and abilities of the students who did not pass online tests in Moodle.

1. training oral exercises to master new words and word-combinations with PowerPoint presentation slide show for new vocabulary introduction and mastering;

2. listening to the phonograms of the texts the Hospital” and “At a Chemist’s” using the computer program TextAloud and the headphones;

3. appropriate using of articles in the medical texts;

4. proper reading and translation of the texts the Hospital” and “At a Chemist’s”.

1. to distinguish and determine Latin and Greek terminological elements;

2. to form medical terms, using Greek-Latin elements;

3. to group affixes according to their meaning;

4. to differentiate Active and Passive grammar construction in the text;

5. to translate and analyse the scientific-medical microtexts;

6. to count the types of inpatient medical establishments;

7. to describe the organization of inpatient treatment;

8. to name the functions of medical personnel and nursing staff;

9. to from nouns using such suffixes as: – ful; -ion; –ist; -able;

10. to name the types of pharmaceutical institutions;

11. to know the medication forms and the requirements to their preservation;

12. to describe the chemist’s work organization;

The application of the multimedia system MOODLE for everyday knowledge assessment.

The Student participation encouraging aspect of the lesson

v The students are proposed to play a game. The teacher throws a small ball at a student asking a new word. The student replies and throws a ball at another student etc.

v The students are demonstrated the first video part form Headway Pre-Inrtermediate English Course. They have visual facilities to understand how greetings and introduction have to be made.
