In the proposed spirogram, determine all volumes that can be registered. Compare the results with the norm.
Spirogram records – tidal volume TV,
inspiratory reserve volume – IRV.,
expiratory reserve volume – ERV.
Knowing that
1. Tidal volume (TV),
2. Inspiratory reserve volume (IRV).
3. Expiratory reserve volume (ERV).
4. Vital capacity (VC).
5. Inspiratory capacity (IC).
As a result of spirography, estimate the capacities of the lungs on spirogram. Compare the results with the norm.
Measure the size in millimeters of inspiratory capacity (IC). (segment of the level of quiet expiration to its maximum inspiration) and multiply the result to 20 ml. Normally the value of inspiratory capacity – 1,8 –
Measure the size in millimeters of vital lung capacity, vital capacity (segment of the level of maximum inspiration to expiratory maximum level) and multiply the results by 20ml. Normally the value of vital capacity of the lungs – men -3,5 – .5,0 l, for women – 3.0 –
1. Tidal volume (TV),

3. Expiratory reserve volume (ERV).
4. Vital capacity (VC).
5. Inspiratory capacity (IC).
In the proposed spirogram indicate VC and explain what it is composed of. Determine the value of vital capacity and compare it with the norm.
In the proposed spirogram measure the height in millimeters of the VC (segment of the level of maximum inspiration to maximum expiratory level) and multiply by 20 milliliters.
Normally the value of vital capacity of the lungs – men -3,5 – .5,0 l, for women – 3.0 –
In the proposed spirogram determine the volume of ventilation per minute. Specify a formula for calculating the volume of ventilation per minute. Compare the results with the norm.
To determine the Tidal Volume and Respiratory Rate. To determine the Tidal Volume, measure the segment between level of calm inhalation to the level of calm exhalation on the Spirogram in millimeters and multiply by 20 milliliters. Respiratory Rate can be determined in the Spirogram on the horizontal plane by measuring the amount of time during which breathing movements were recorded at rest before deep breathing movements. (the distance between the waves – 5sec.). Further, consider the number of respiratory movements during this period of time calculate for 1 minute.
The formula to determine Volume of ventilation per minute: Tidal Volume • RR
Normally volume of ventilation per minute – 6-
In the proposed spirogram determine the respiratory rate. Compare the result with the norm.
Respiratory rate – Is the number of breathing movements in 1 min. Respiratory Rate can be determined on the spirogram in the horizontal plane by measuring the amount of time during which breathing movements were recorded at rest before deep breathing. Further, consider the number of respiratory movements during this time period and calculate for 1 minute. The normal breathing rate for adults is 16-20 min.
In the proposed spirogram, determine lung capacities which include the Inspiratory Reserve Volume, Tidal Volume and Expiratory Reserve Volume. Compare the result with the norm.
Capacity, which consists of the Tidal Volume, Inspiratory Reserve Volume and Expiratory Reserve Volume is called the Vital Capacity of the lungs.
Measure in millimeters the value of VC (segment of maximal inspiratory level to the level of maximum expiration) and multiply the results by 20. Normally the value of vital capacity of the lungs in men is 3,5 –
1. Tidal volume (TV),
2. Inspiratory reserve volume (IRV).
3. Expiratory reserve volume (ERV).
4. Vital capacity (VC).
5. Inspiratory capacity (IC).
In the proposed spirogram specify tidal volume TV, inspiratory reserve volume – IRV, expiratory reserve volume – ERV, respiratory rate – RR. Compare the result with the norm – 5 min.
In the proposed, measure height of spirogram IRV. (on the level of quiet inspiration to its maximum inspiration) and multiply by 20 milliliters. Measure the height ERV. (The level of quiet exhalation to its maximum exhalation) and multiply by 20 milliliters. Measure TV (the height of the amplitude of respiratory movements alone) and multiply by 20 milliliters Respiration rate can be determined in the spirogram on the horizontal plane by measuring the amount of time during which breathing movements were recorded at rest before deep breathing. Further, consider the number of respiratory movements during this time period and calculate for 1 minute. Iormal breathing rate for adults – 16-20 min.
Indicate whether it is impossible to determine the value of the proposed spirogram indicators and FRC and TLC. If not, please explain why – 2 min
It is impossible to determine. Spirogram can not register residual volume, and hence the value of the total lung capacity, which includes residual volume.
Specify which volumes include the concept of Inspiratory Capacity. Define it on the proposed spirogram. Compare the result with the norm – 5 min
Inspiratory capacity consists of Tidal Volume (TV) and Inspiratory reserved volume (IRV). In the proposed spirogram measure the Inspiratory Capacity from the level of quiet expiration to the peak of maximum inhalation and multiply by 20 milliliters.
