Student Objectives:
Learning Objectives:
- Explain the consequences of an untreated streptococcal infection of the upper respiratory tract.
- Identify adult populations at highest risk for contracting influenza.
- Develop a teaching plan to prevent influenza in the older adult.
- Identify clients at risk for developing community-acquired or hospital-acquired pneumonia.
- Compare the clinical manifestations of pneumonia in the younger client to those exhibited by the
older client with pneumonia. - Identify adult populations at risk for tuberculosis.
- Interpret correctly the purified protein derivative test results for an person with normal immune function and a person with human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome.
- Prioritize educational needs for the client undergoing treatment at home for active tuberculosis.
Developmental and Cultural Considerations:
- Recognize differences in vaccination among different races
- Understand the mortality in the elderly caused by pneumonia and the signs and symptoms associated with the infection
Additional Learning Objectives
- Be able to provide the care for postoperative client after sinus surgery
- Understand the causes of pharyngitis
- Differentiate between viral and bacterial pharyngitis
- Understand the risk factors associated with pneumonia and the common organisms causing the infection
- Be able to educate the client on preventing pneumonia
- Understand the classification and treatment of tuberculosis
